Who Started The Milwaukee Panthers Baseball Team

The Milwaukee Panthers is a baseball team that plays for the University of Michigan at Milwaukee. The college is a Division I school, and is actually the only Division I school located in the state of Wisconsin. Their team colors are black and gold and compete in the Horizon Conference, a conference consisting of several other Midwest colleges. The Milwaukee Panthers had their inaugural season in 1957, a little over 50 years ago. They play the majority of their home games on Henry Aaron Field, a field named the famous baseball player, Henry Aaron. The baseball team was not founded by an individual man; rather, it was elected to become a sport by the University. However, a single man did coach the Panthers their very first year, and continued to coach them for a total of 14 years. While he did not have a career winning percentage above .500, he did lay the groundwork for a team that would become very successful and a competitive team for the next 50 years. This man’s name was Bill Ritter. Despite the sport’s slow start, the Milwaukee Panthers have several conference championships to their name and several NCAA Division I National Championship appearances.
